Approx. 731 tentative vacancies announced for Stenographer Grade C & D (exact post/category-wise to be updated on ssc.gov.in; State/Zone-wise vacancies not collected by SSC). Vacancies for ESM reserved only for Group C (Grade D). Updated vacancy details will be available on SSC website. Final vacancies: 232 Grade C + 1483 Grade D = 1715 (per some sources, subject to confirmation).
Nationality: Indian citizen / Subject of Nepal/Bhutan / Tibetan refugee (before 01.01.1962) / Person of Indian origin from specified countries (eligibility certificate required).
Crucial date: 01.08.2026 (born not before 02.08.1996 & not later than 01.08.2008 for Grade C; adjust for Grade D).
Computer Based Test (CBT): 200 marks (objective; General Intelligence & Reasoning 50, GA 50, English 100); qualifying: 30% UR, 25% OBC/EWS, 20% others.
Skill Test in Stenography (Qualifying): Grade C: 100 wpm (English/Hindi); Grade D: 80 wpm (English/Hindi) (10 min dictation; 40% UR/EWS, 35% others pass marks).
Eligible candidates apply online through SSC career portal from 24 April 2026 (evening). Complete OTR first, then application with photo/signature upload. Helpline: 1800-309-3063.
The last date to apply online for SSC Stenographer 2026 is 15 May 2026 (23:00 Hrs). Candidates must complete registration and fee payment before the deadline. Applications submitted after the closing date will not be accepted.

The application fee is ₹100 for General, OBC, and EWS candidates. Candidates belonging to SC, ST, PwBD, ESM, and women categories are exempted. The fee can be paid through online modes like UPI, net banking, or debit/credit cards.
The selection process includes a Computer-Based Test followed by a stenography skill test. Candidates who qualify both stages will be called for document verification. Final selection is based on CBT marks.
The salary for Grade C is under Pay Level-7 ranging from ₹44,900 to ₹1,42,400. For Grade D, the salary falls under Pay Level-4 ranging from ₹25,500 to ₹81,100. Additional benefits like DA, HRA, and other allowances are also provided.
The SSC Stenographer 2026 exam is expected to be held in July–August 2026. The exact exam dates will be announced officially on the SSC website. Candidates should stay updated and prepare accordingly.
